What we promise about every page.

These are the rules we hold ourselves to. They are published so you can hold us to them as well — and so you can tell when we have not.

Every guide carries its own paperwork

A guide cannot publish without an author, a publish date, a review date, and an evidence rating. That is enforced by the system that builds the site, not by someone remembering: a page missing any of them fails to build.

Each guide also carries a limitations block — the part where we set out what the guide cannot tell you. It is required for the same reason. A page that only lists what is known is quietly overstating itself.

We name what we do not know

Where the evidence is thin, we rate it thin. Where credible researchers disagree, we say so and describe the disagreement rather than resolving it for you.

Individual variation is treated as normal rather than as noise. Caffeine sensitivity, chronotype, and light response differ widely between people, and a guide that gives one number for everybody is usually hiding that.

We do not use fear

We do not open a page with the consequences of poor sleep, and we do not use health risk as a persuasion device. People arrive at sleep content anxious, often late at night, and adding to that is both unkind and counterproductive — anxiety about sleep is itself one of the things that keeps people awake.

We also avoid the language of optimisation. There is no perfect night, no schedule that suits everyone, and no number of hours you owe anyone.

We stay inside our boundary

Restadian publishes education. It does not diagnose, does not treat, and does not replace a clinician. Where a pattern warrants professional attention, we say so plainly and point you towards it rather than attempting to handle it ourselves.

Our tools estimate. Each one states what it estimates and what it cannot see, in its own words, on its own page.

We correct in public

When we get something wrong, we fix it and we say what changed. Substantive corrections are recorded rather than quietly edited away.

Ratings are not permanent. New evidence can move a guide up or down the scale, and when that happens the guide records the change and the reasoning behind it.

We keep no undisclosed interests

Restadian does not currently accept sponsored content, affiliate placements, or paid product reviews. If that changes, the change will be disclosed here before it appears anywhere else on the site, and any page it affects will be labelled.

Found something wrong?

Corrections are how a publication earns its ratings. If a page overstates its evidence, misreads a source, or is simply out of date, tell us.
